How To Make The Most Of Your Autumn Photoshoot

You’re either considering having an Autumn photoshoot or got one booked and now, rightly so, you’re wondering how to make the most of the experience.

There are many reasons why Autumn is a great time to have a family photoshoot (I have listed 11 of them here) but the main one is that the colours are just so beautiful. Therefore, most Autumn shoots take full advantage of this and take place outside. However, this can cause concern with certain families who wonder what on earth they are going to do outside for an hour!

As my approach to family photography does not involve posing, it means I need to think ahead of what we are going to get up to during the photoshoot. Therefore I have listed here just a few things you can do during an Autumn photoshoot.

Playing/ throwing leaves

With so many beautiful leaves on the ground it makes for a great opportunity to throw them around. Not only do kids find great joy in this but adults can never help but smile and join in too

Halloween themed

With it being the runup to Halloween you can incorporate this into your Autumn photoshoot and do some pumpkin carving or decorating. Alternatively you can all dress up in your favourite spooky costumes.

Park/playground

A simple visit to your family’s favourite park or playground can be a great distraction from being photographed. Especially for the kids who can just have fun on the play equipment.

Feeding ducks

If there is a pond or lake at your photoshoot location then you can bring along some food and feed the ducks.

Woodland Walk

Woodland photoshoots are always popular with families and again, with the beautiful colours of autumn these can look even more spectacular.

Snuggly clothing and cuddles

If you would like the photos of your Autumn photoshoot to primarily focus on the love within your family then you can simply all sit together and have cuddles. Wearing snuggly clothes  and layering them can really add to the overall warmth of the final images.

Picnic

If you are a family that enjoys a meal together then you can take a picnic and incorporate sharing that together into your photoshoot.

Get an ice cream

Instead of a full picnic you could perhaps just grab some ice creams to enjoy. This can make for some great messy shots of the younger ones with ice cream dripping down their chin!

In home shoot

Lastly, if you’re not keen to be outside or the weather is rubbish you can have your Autumn photoshoot at home. You can either add some lovely Autumnal decorations to your home or simply leave it as it is to make capturing your family home part of your final images.

That was just a few ideas for an Autumn photoshoot, however, you are of course welcome to suggest any of your own ideas that will make the photoshoot more unique to your own family.
