Why Summer is the Perfect Time for a Family Photoshoot

Have you ever noticed how time feels different in summer?

The days stretch out longer, the light is warmer, and everything just slows down—if only just a little. The kids are off school, routines relax, and we suddenly find ourselves soaking up moments that feel just a little more magical than usual.

And that’s exactly why a family photoshoot in the summer isn’t just lovely—it’s important.

Sunshine, laughter, and barefoot memories

There’s something magical about summer. Sticky fingers from melting ice creams. Grass-stained knees. Messy hair and sun hats. Bare feet running through the garden or along a sandy path. These are the memories our children will carry with them.

But here’s the thing: they grow so fast, don’t they?

You blink, and suddenly that gap-toothed grin is filled in. The chubby toddler arms are now longer. The way they say “mummy” changes. The cuddles are a bit less frequent. We can’t bottle time—but we can capture these moments before they slip through our fingers.

Real moments, not posed perfection

The beauty of a summer family photoshoot lies in its ease. We’re not after stiff smiles or awkward posing. Summer gives us the freedom to just be. Whether it’s an evening walk in the fields, splashing in a paddling pool, or a lazy garden picnic, these relaxed settings bring out your family’s natural connection. And that’s where the magic happens. Click here for some fun and natural family photoshoot ideas.

When you look back on these photos in years to come, you won’t just see what you looked like—you’ll remember how it felt.

The giggles. The sunshine. The way your child ran into your arms and squealed with delight. That’s the kind of memory worth preserving.

No school uniforms, no time pressures

One of the best things about summer? It’s easier to make time.

With fewer after-school clubs, no packed lunches to make, and longer evenings to play with, summer offers that rare gift: space. Space to slow down and enjoy time as a family. To take an hour out of your day to celebrate your connection. To say—this matters.

Because it really does.

  • It was So Relaxed

Bec was ready and waiting for us at Abington Park at the agreed time, and had prepared a blanket for us to use to get some cute shots of us as a family sitting by the trees. She was really relaxed, and gently suggested some different action shots around my 4 year old wanting to play. She was very patient, and took some amazing photos of us all. She took the time to chat with us about our interests, and even stayed longer than the allotted time to take some adorable pictures of my 1 year old enjoying her first ever ice-cream. My husband can feel uncomfortable with having his photo taken, but with Bec it was so relaxed he was quickly able to forget the camera. Bec did an amazing job during the shoot, and we love the photos. Thank you so much Bec!

A gift to your future self

You’ll never regret having photos of this summer.

When the leaves start to fall, or when the children have grown a little taller, you’ll look back at those sun-drenched images and feel something deep in your chest. A pull. A warmth. A reminder of who you were, together, at that exact point in time.

And trust me—those future versions of you will be so, so glad you did.
