Why Mums Deserve to Be in the Photos Too
Mums deserve to be in the photos
When you look back through the camera roll on your phone, how many of those pictures are you in?
If you’re like most mums I speak to, the answer is: not many. Maybe the odd selfie, or a rare occasion when someone else grabs your phone. But most of the time, you’re the one taking the photos—capturing your kids’ smiles, messy faces, and wild energy, while staying quietly behind the lens yourself.
And while it might not seem like a big deal at the time, one day… it will be.
You are a huge part of their story
Your children won’t just want to remember what they looked like when they were little. They’ll want to remember you—the way you held them, the way you laughed, the way you looked at them with that soft, tired, overwhelming kind of love.
They won’t care whether you’d just thrown your hair up or whether you still had baby sick on your top. They’ll just want to see you.
As a photographer, I hear this all the time:
“I wan’t to lose some weight first.”
“I hate being in front of the camera.”
“Let’s just get the kids today.”
But here’s the thing—your presence in the picture is the whole point.
Your children want photos with you, not just of them.
Family photography isn’t about perfection. It’s about connection. It’s about getting you in the frame, not posed stiffly, but wrapped in cuddles, messy hair and all. It’s about making sure your children grow up with memories with you in them.
Because one day, those photographs will be treasures. They’ll hold them tight, show their own children, and say:
“That’s my mum. We had such fun together”
This is your permission
So here it is—your permission slip to get in the photo.
Not when you’ve lost the weight.
Not when you’ve had more sleep.
Not when the house is tidier or life is less hectic.
Now. Just as you are.
Because who you are, right now, is exactly who they love.
Mums deserve to be in the photos!
